Heather Heck Accused of Leaving Baby in Car for Weekend While She Partied

But, alas, she couldn’t find anyone to babysit./ So she did the only logical thing: wrapped her six-week-old child up in a bed sheet (and a dirty one at that), and left the little angel in a laundry basket in her boyfriend’s SUV.
Sounds a lot like David and Liz Carroll, doesn’t it? In that case, the negligent foster parents left their boy Marcus Fiesel tied up ina closet so that they could sojourn to an out-of-state family reunion. But this case is…different. Heck and her boyfriend, Wesley Cales, are religious. So religious, in fact, that Heather Heck feared the wrath of hellfire from the leaders of Calvary Apostolic Church if they discovered that the pair had had sex without God’s permission. As a result, Heck kept the baby a secret from everybody…including her boyfriend, the boy’s father.

For Federal fiscal year 2004, an estimated 3 million children were alleged to have been abused or neglected and received investigations or assessments by State and local child protective services (CPS) agencies. Approximately 872,000 children were determined to be victims of child maltreatment.
If we take just the confirmed abuse of 872,000 children in 2004 that would mean that about 2389 children are abused a day. We all hear a lot about terrorists and the threat they pose to America, how sad and ironic that we seem to be doing such a sad job at protecting America’s children.
