Information about the details of when, how and what kind of bees eat what kind of fruit is a little difficult to track down. Though admittedly my time is a little short today. I found a good reference by way of Google books, but the print is unreadable. For now it appears that if a piece of fruit like a grape burst an opening or wasp or hornet creates one the bee will take advantage of the opportunity to feed on the sweet pulp. Since the bees and wasps are helpful during pollination the best natural alternative is to plant some nectar producing flowers nearby that will distracts them from feeding on your grapes or other fruit.
For solar power, the future looks bright
Once given up for dead, SunPower (Charts), which makes and installs solar photovoltaic panels for businesses and homes, expects to generate revenues of $1 billion to $1.2 billion and profits of $146 million to $162 million next year. Its customers include Wal-Mart, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, Macy’s, Tiffany, FedEx, Toyota, Target, Lowe’s, the governor of Colorado (who has solar panels on the roof of his mansion), and the Department of Defense (which uses solar energy to power Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, but not its planes).
You might remember the Helios an unmanned plane that was designed to fly by solar power during the day and powered stored in batteries by night. Well Dick Swanson of SunPower designed the solar cells on that plane. The plane ended up crashing, but that doesn’t mean the concept wasn’t a good one. His partner in SunPower T.J. Rogers is something of a jerk who hates Al Gore and could care less about global warming all the while embracing government subsidies for solar. Oh well, in a perfect world people would do things for the right reasons. Still many companies are embracing solar and in the end that’s what counts.
Stem cells may enhance capability of heart cells to regenerate
During a fatal heart attack, at least 1 billion heart cells are killed in the left ventricle, one of the heart’s two big lower pumping chambers that move blood into the body.
[ ]…Stem cells are different from other cells in the human body because they can change — “differentiate” — into other cell types. This variability makes stem cells exciting, since they could in theory replace damaged or defective cells.
